Take Bridal Shower Lingerie to a New, Beautiful Level

We've all been there: the bridal shower where the Mrs.-to-be in question opens gift after gift of cheap lingerie that's either embarrassingly scandalous (hey, Mom's in the room after all!), poorly constructed or feels like sandpaper. At a time where we're all starting to contemplate the cost/benefit analysis of consuming fast fashion, it makes sense to gift something with staying power, something that says "I think you're really special and you deserve something as lovely as you are."

I started Honey Cooler Handmade partly because I felt that lingerie with fine yet hardy embellishment was difficult to find. Delicacy and strength CAN go hand in hand, so this wedding season, why not gift both? If she's into versatility, a Deco Cami is a perfect gift. It can easily be worn in the boudoir or paired with skinny jeans for a night out. Want to go a bit sexier? The Deco Bralette's cheeky sheer heart appliqués are sure to make an impact. If her style is all about simplicity and comfort, the Cotillion Chemise and matching Knickers are at once sexy and undeniably cozy.

When you gift Honey Cooler Handmade lingerie, you let her know that she's special enough for the best.

HCH in Chaos Magazine, Summer 2013

While I often loan lingerie pieces out for photo shoots, it's rare that the final product gets published, no matter how impressive the photography. But when Spain-to-SF-transplant stylist Anna Fortuny contacted me about having my pieces as part of a Chaos Magazine shoot, I had a feeling I'd be seeing HCH in lights, and boy was I right!

Two of my Deco Camisoles were featured as part of Chaos Magazine's Dolls Issue in an editorial titled Friendship, Love and Truth by photographer Reese Herrick.

Download the full magazine here - it's all-out gorgeous and well worth the $5!

HCH Loves Bike Pretty!

Social media is an incredible thing. If you follow me on Twitter, you know I'm pretty active there. I love talking with lingerie connoisseurs along with brands and bloggers I admire. One of my favorite lingerie tweeters is the amazing Lingerie Lesbian, who has featured HCH a few times on her blog. Another of her admirers is Melissa from Bike Pretty, who contacted me through Twitter after seeing my lingerie featured on The Lingerie Lesbian's blog. We realized we not only live in the same city, but also in the same neighborhood, so we just had to meet up. And what an awesome meeting it was! Melissa snagged some HCH pieces to feature on her blog, and here are some of my favorite images from her posts!

Pairing the Lucky Star Deco Cami with leggings...

...and a blazer she made herself. This girl rocks!

Positively rocking the Hortense Bloomers, a fashion-forward nod to the
bloomer-wearing bike-riding ladies of the Edwardian era!

Nothing is more satisfying than a really great collaboration, and Melissa's posts on Bike Pretty were such a treat. Check out her blog if you haven't already - she truly makes biking, well, pretty!

Now on Etsy: The Doris Deco Camisole

These days, I don't usually take to the blog to announce an individual new piece, but the Doris Deco Cami is a special exception.

I've had a lot of requests for larger sizes over the year and Doris is my first foray into a more generously cut silhouette. I draft and drape all my patterns based on a pretty small dress form, so taking a leap even one or two sizes up from a 4 is quite a task. Doris is my first size XXL, roughly a size 16 and I am so excited to see her in action.

Doris will be making her in-person debut at A La Folie's Men's Shopping night tomorrow evening. In the meantime, check her out here.

Now on Etsy: The Meghan Deco Camisole

Another peplum has popped up in the Etsy shop! Say hello to Meghan, my new favorite piece.

Meghan, pretty from every angle!

She's crafted from a lovely dotted silk jacquard with a double bow detail, dragon lace chevron and kicky peplum for a little extra oomph. Check her out in the shop, along with a bunch of newly listed lovelies.

Preview: Itzel Deco Camisole

With all the traveling I've been doing lately, sitting down to sew something substantial has been impossible. The past few weeks have found me jumping in the ocean, drinking and eating more than a reasonable person should, camping, playing with babies, eating some more, attending a wedding and hanging out with some of the coolest people on the planet.

Now that I'm back to the grind and a somewhat normal schedule, I figured it would be best to start strong; That's where Itzel comes in.

Itzel Deco Camisole details

The Itzel Deco Camisole uses the same gorgeous starry silk jacquard and makes it even more cosmic with a harder-to-make-than-you'd-think lace star, a bunch of tulle cutouts and some sweet chevron action.

Keep you eyes peeled for Itzel in the Etsy shop later today and stay tuned for more fancy fun in the coming weeks!

Etsy Finds: Stripes Ooh La La

Starting the weekend off with a feature in the Etsy Finds email is quite an awesome feeling. My Imogene Deco Camisole was featured in a Bastille Day-themed mailing and I couldn't be more delighted!

The Imogene Deco Cami is one of my favorites - it's made of a lovely white and black striped silk charmeuse, cut on the bias for a truly flowy feel. The sheer crescent moon is a lovely touch of Edwardian nostalgia on a piece that is accessible, modern and comfortable.

Now on Etsy: The Darcy Deco Camisole

Peplums are literally everywhere this season. This year's Met Ball attendees proudly wore the pretty skirted detail, and even swimsuits are taking on the shape, with pieces by Marc by Marc Jacobs and Zinke being the most notable standouts.

I've had a peplum Deco Cami sketch tucked away in my notebook for awhile now, so with peplums all the rage, what better time to break it out? I played with the existing Deco Camisole pattern and added a little ruffle flounce at the waist, which adds a touch of kickiness and a whole lot of shape. Behold: the first iteration of my peplumed pretty, Darcy.

My itsy bitsy dress form doesn't do Darcy justice - she really needs to be worn to be believed! Check her out in the Etsy shop and let me know what you think!

Photography by Adam Aguilar

New photography by the uber-talented Adam Aguilar. Coming down off the craziness of Urban Air Market has put this post on the back burner for the past week, but I'm pleased to share it with you now!

Alas, Poor Yorick!

After spending a day and a half on this puppy with the intention of wearing it to the RAW Showcase... I'm debating listing it in the shop instead since I'm constantly selling out of my skull tops. Who knew lace skulls would be such a big seller?

So, to be (selfish) or not to be (selfish)?

(See what I did there?)

Preview: Ginger Deco Camisole

It's 3:52 on a Saturday afternoon and guess who's still in her pajamas...

But don't judge. I may be a slob at the moment but at least I'm not a lazy one. I've been sewing up Ginger all day and just finished. Sometimes being on a roll means forgoing a normal routine, catching up on Downton Abbey and plowing through a project in one sitting.

Take a peek! She'll be in the Etsy shop tomorrow. As for me, it's time for a shower.

There's No Feeling Like...

...completing custom order pieces.

Here's the first of three pieces I'm sewing up this month for an Etsy customer and I'm so pleased with the results.

What projects are you working on these days?

Preview: Pearl Deco Camisole

In preparation for Thread SF this weekend, I've been sewing my little heart out. I have tons of adorable new pieces to show, and they'll be making their debut at Thread before you see them in my Etsy shop, so make sure you swing by.

My newest gem is the Pearl Deco Camisole, a lovely warm ivory jacquard top with a triple bow insertion lace detail. It's the ideal layering piece - wear it with a red cardigan, skinny jeans and black boots for the perfect holiday party ensemble!

Now on Etsy: Margie and Oralie

Check out my newest shining stars, the Margie Deco Camisole and the Oralie Bow Belt, both available in the Honey Cooler Handmade shop now.

Margie is made from a lovely wheat motif cornflower blue silk jacquard with a totally sheer cotton tulle yoke and a beautiful antique beading lace detail. She speaks to the romantic in all of us - with all the fussiness of Victoriana and the simplicity of a basic cut.

Oralie is made from a sumptuous antique Edwardian brocade ribbon and finished off with a yummy blue velvet bow... the perfect pops of color for the fall days ahead.
